Holy Cross School Najafgarh, Delhi: Admission, Academic, Fee 2023-24
Holy Cross was inaugurated in Najafara on 7/10/1978 by the Chavanod Cross Sisters Congregation, who have been operating in India since 1886.
The group of the Sisters of the Cross had humble beginnings in 1838 in a small town called Chavanode in the beautiful mountainous regions of Upper Savoy, France. The situation created by the French Revolution (1789-1797) and the industrialization of Europe (1750-1830) greatly affected the social, economic, and political conditions of France, especially in the regions of Savoy.
At this time, a pious, energetic and pious person lived in Chavanod, in the service of the priest: Claudine Eschernier. She was a native of Feternes, a small town in Chablais, and belonged to a very poor family. After losing her mother at the age of 15, she had to raise her younger brothers and sisters and only managed to leave the house when she was 27 years old. At the priest in Chavanod, boys and girls from the parish began to gather around him to teach them reading, writing and catechesis.
Father Peter Mermer, a jealous priest and founder of the Saint Francis de Salles Missionaries, was affected by the poverty and illiteracy prevalent among the poor of society and looked for ways and means to correct the situation. He envisioned establishing a new type of religious grouping that would allow poor young women to lead dedicated lives in the midst of the world. At the time of his expedition to Chavanod in 1838, he met Claudine Eschernier. Some of the girls who came to her every Sunday were excited by the excitement she was speaking and yearned to dedicate themselves completely to God and to serving his people.
